Newsletter (Dec 2007)D E C E M B E R 2 0 0 7 Monthly newsletter pertaining to the topic of librarians. It’s that time of year again to decorate your book cart as a sleigh and start planning the merry making for the month. Christmas Carols and Songs for Librarians Are you planning your holiday party, or making plans to go Christmas caroling? During the holidays librarians get very creative in writing new lyrics to be sung to the tune of traditional songs. So forget the traditional songs and spice up your merrymaking with some Christmas carol lyrics or songs for librarians. Create your own, or check out the lyrics on these two sites: Christmas Carol Lyrics for Libraries from the Warrior Librarian http://warriorlibrarian.com/HUMOUR/carols.html Christmas Time at the Library from the Laughing Librarian website Lyrics and MP3 download available http://www.laughinglibrarian.com/bibditties.htm Christmas Gifts for Librarians Don’t forget to add your favorite librarian and yourself to your Christmas list. You, and your favorite librarian deserve a special treat this Christmas. My new book Casanova Was a Librarian: a Light-hearted Look at the Profession makes a nice gift. And if you already have my book, it has lots of librarian gift ideas in it, like librarian neckties, clothing, jewelry etc. And you can find lots of merchandise with librarian logos on Cafepress.com. But below are some additional ideas you may want to consider. Personalized Framed Librarian at Work Cartoon My sister gave me an earlier version of this years ago which I still treasure in my office. Treasured Keepsakes in Downingtown, Pennsylvania and People Stuff in Maryland Heights, Missouri, both sell a personalized 8 x 10” color print of a librarian sitting at his/her desk in the library. You select the gender, skin tone, and matte color. You supply the name of the librarian, the wording for the wall in the library, and the wording to go on the front of the reference/checkout desk. Check out the print at http://tinyurl.com/22u4kb or http://www.people-stuff.com/Occupations3.htm. Personalized Librarian Ornament The Christmas Spirit Shop of Bar Harbor, Maine sells hand crafted personalized ornaments, including a librarian/book lover ornament (both male and female versions are available). To see and order the ornament, click on the following link http://tinyurl.com/ytrhrx Scarves for Book Lovers You can never have too many scarves to dress up your wardrobe. Teacher Gifts in Shasta, California sells a 36” x 36” “Reading First” scarf which depicts shelves of books, and a “Reading Books” scarf with pictures of individual books floating against the background. Both sell for under $13 each. They also sell a lapel pin with the word “Librarian” on it with a book dangling from the bottom of it. The lapel pin would make a nice stocking stuffer. You can see the items at http://tinyurl.com/2pexgc Watches for Librarians Your favorite librarian probably has many book lights, but probably not a librarian watch. To solve that situation, check out the New Jersey Library Association’s online store. They sell a battery operated watch for librarians and avid readers. Available in a black or red band, the face of the watch features books, glasses, a tea cup, pen, and a library card. You can see the watches at www.njla.org/store/jewelry. Throws for Librarian and Book Lovers The weather’s getting downright chilly even here in California. So a nice warm throw is always a welcome gift. The New Jersey Library Association also sells a variety of throws with book designs. You can see them at www.njla.org/store/throws. I, Librarian This book is a compilation of the first collection of James Turner’s Rex Libris comic series about the head of the Middleton Library, a member of the Ordo Bibliotheca who travels through space in search of stolen or overdue library books. And for collectors, there’s also a Rex Libris limited edition statue available. You can find out more about the items at www.slgcomic.com. Wishing you all a Happy Holiday Season!
