LIBRARY MUSICALS

I’ve always been a big fan of musicals.  If you’re a fan also, then you may be interested in the following two library musicals that can be viewed on the web.

Prangstgrup Library Musical – Reading on a Dream PRANK!
We all know you can never predict what will happen in the library each day.  In this funny music video by Prangstgrup, two library users suddenly break the silence in the reading room by singing a Broadway-type song.  You can read the lyrics of the complete song on YouTube as you’re watching the video.

Librarian
( www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ne_WXP7lUWM)
A new music video by the group Haunted Love, the image of the librarians is amusing.  You don’t want to mess with these two librarians!

YouTube Salute to Librarians
(www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgrQ4NNoq6M)
And while you’re on YouTube, if you haven’t already seen it, there’s a Salute to Librarians on there.  The sound volume on the video is very uneven, so be prepared to adjust the volume on your computer a couple of times.

LIBRARIANS ON THE BIG SCREEN

Two new movies, one based on a fiction book, the other on a comic book series, will be appearing on the big screen in the not too distant future.

The Time Traveler’s Wife
This bestselling novel, by Audrey Niffenegger is being adapted for the big screen.  Actor Eric Bana (who stars opposite Drew Barrymore in the new movie Lucky You), has been cast to play Henry DeTamble, an “adventuresome librarian who involuntarily travels through time.”  This is more a love story, than a science fiction book.  No word yet on when filming will start.

Rex Libris
Yes, time traveling head librarian Rex Libris may also be coming to the big screen.  Warner Brothers has reportedly hired a scriptwriter to adopt the comic book series to the big screen.  If you’re not familiar with this character created by James Turner, you can find out more information about it in my book, or on the Slave Labor Graphics website (www.slgcomics.com).

The Mummy 3:  Curse of the Dragon
For fans of the1999 Mummy movie, and the 2001 sequel, The Mummy Returns, will be delighted to hear a variety of sources report a third film is scheduled to begin production this year.  Sadly, various sources also report that Rachel Weisz will not be appearing in this third film.  In the first two films, she played Evelyn Carnahan, a fun librarian action hero with wonderful lines like, “No harm ever came from reading a book.”  But of course, by reading from a book out loud, she accidentally revives the Mummy who begins to wreck havoc on the world.

NEED A LITTLE COMPUTER DIVERSION?

Having a tough day at work?  If you feel like you’ve been glued to your work chair and computer, take a break and play a little Reshelving Shuffle.  This is an online hangman type game where if you don’t figure out the mystery word after a decent number of attempts, a poor library worker ends up dropping a huge stack of books.  You can play the game at www.bibliozine.com/lighterside/hangman/hangman.shtml.
